Keystone Bank Empowers 160 Students with WAEC Fees and Financial Literacy Program in Kano, Kebbi, Kaduna and Katsina
In response to the critical issue of educational access in Nigeria, Keystone Bank successfully paid the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees of 160 students who were unable to pay due to financial constraints. This initiative stems from the alarming fact that approximately 20,000 students in Nigeria were unable to write WAEC in 2022 due to an inability to afford the fees.
The project, executed in Kano, Kebbi, Katsina, and Kaduna, not only covered the WAEC fees for the identified 160 students but also introduced a comprehensive financial literacy program. Over 200 people, including students and staff of the respective schools, benefitted from the initiative.
The financial literacy program aimed to equip students with essential skills for financial management and planning for their future needs. The interactive sessions were conducted by staff from Keystone Bank, fostering a deeper understanding of the importance of saving and responsible financial behaviour.
Distinguished guests in attendance included the Commissioner of the Ministry of Education for Kebbi and Kaduna, representatives from the Ministry of Education, The Head of Public Sector at Keystone Bank Limited, zonal and regional heads of respective regions, business team leads of each state, and other bank staff. Principals, teachers, and students from the impacted schools also participated in the program.
During the event, the Head of Public Sector and the Commissioner of the Ministry of Education, Kaduna, addressed the students, emphasizing the significance of education and the pivotal role it plays in societal development. They urged the students to stay focused on their studies, highlighting education as a pathway to greater heights.
